Context and background.

The village of Babong is a remote, poor village in the Bafang region of Cameroon, approximately 300 km northwest of the capital Yaoundé. With around 700 inhabitants, the village suffers from a lack of health facilities and drinking water points, resulting in permanent health problems:

  • The disease rate due to lack of basic hygiene or health regulations is very high
  • The frequency and duration of these diseases lead to constant interruption of the school year and a very high dropout rate among pupils
  • The nearest health centre is approximately 10 km away
  • Rural populations like Babong are particularly at risk, as very few know the causes of these diseases and the corresponding preventive measures

Project goal.

Enabling basic medical care in Babong and surrounding villages, and educating the village population about hygiene and health.

Activities.

  • Construction of a village health centre with 4 treatment rooms
  • Setting up a treatment room and waiting area for patients
  • Furnishing the health centre
  • Organising an information campaign on hygiene and health
