We take the protection of your personal data seriously. This privacy policy informs you about what data we collect, for what purpose we process it, and what rights you have.
1. Responsible entity
Responsible for data processing under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Initiative Afrika-Solidarität Deutschland e.V.Waldstraße 2, 64409 Messel
Email: info@afrika-solidarity.org
2. General data processing
Scope of processing
We collect and use personal data of our users only insofar as this is necessary to provide a functional website and our content and services.
Legal basis
Processing is based on the GDPR, in particular Art. 6 (1) (a) consent, (b) contract performance, (c) legal obligation and (f) legitimate interest.
3. Server log files
When you visit our website, our hosting provider automatically stores information in server log files:
- IP address (anonymised)
- Date and time of access
- Pages visited and amount of data transferred
- Browser type, operating system, referrer URL
The data is processed to ensure operation and is automatically deleted after 7 days. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR.
4. Contact form and email
If you contact us via the contact form or by email, we process your information (name, email, optionally phone, message) to handle your enquiry. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (b) and (f) GDPR. We store the data for as long as necessary and as legally required.
5. Donations and sponsorships
To handle donations, sponsorships and memberships we collect the data required for contract execution: name, address, email, and where applicable bank details. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR. Tax-relevant data is kept for up to 10 years in accordance with §§ 147, 257 AO.
6. Newsletter
You may subscribe to our newsletter. We use the double opt-in procedure: after subscribing you receive a confirmation email. Only after confirmation are you added to our list. You may unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email.
7. Cookies and external content
Our website uses only technically necessary cookies (e.g. for language selection). No tracking takes place; no analytics services are used.
On some project pages we embed YouTube video thumbnails. Clicking a thumbnail loads the video directly from YouTube (Google Ireland Limited) — this can connect to Google servers and transmit data such as your IP address to Google. We only embed videos after a click, so no connection to YouTube is made on page load alone. We also load fonts from Google Fonts, which establishes a connection to Google servers on page load. More information: Google's privacy policy.
8. Your rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR)
- Right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
- Right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
- Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
- Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
- Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR)
- Right to withdraw consent (Art. 7 (3) GDPR)
To exercise your rights, a brief message to info@afrika-solidarity.org suffices.

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority — e.g. the Hessian Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information, P.O. Box 3163, 65021 Wiesbaden.
