In 2022/23 we supported organic farming in West Cameroon. In 2024, we wanted to know: is it still holding up? A look back with our partners AAFCOOP and ACODEB.
Development projects often end with the handover — and that's exactly where the real question begins: does any of it last? Our project "Promoting organic farming in West Cameroon in the fight against hunger and poverty" (2022–2023) had trained young farmers in organic agriculture, raised awareness of climate change, and increased their productivity. In 2024, we wanted to know for sure, and carried out site visits together with our partners AAFCOOP and ACODEB.
The balance two years after the project ended is positive:
With lower investment and high productivity at the same time, young farmers can now earn more — and set part of it aside deliberately for the next season. Better marketing of their produce also strengthens their influence over the value chain and secures higher profit margins. The increased household income directly benefits quality of life and health — and allows more children a longer, more regular school attendance.
At the end of 2024, our association "Initiative Afrika-Solidarität Deutschland e.V." counted 10 members in total.
