Healthcare often fails not for lack of knowledge, but because of distance: those without an easy path to the nearest health post go untreated. Santé Communautaire flips this principle — bringing diagnosis and outreach directly to the doorstep.
Together with our partner ACODEB and IFPS (the institute for training health personnel), we carried out a program of "descentes communautaires" in 2024 — community visits for diagnosis and for information, education and communication (IEC).
Three visits, three neighborhoods.
It began on 10 January 2024 in the Ndianso and Melam districts: 14 households were visited to build a community diagnosis and advise residents on their specific health concerns.

On 24 February 2024, Bafoussam 1er followed, with more than ten further households visited. The series concluded on 30 April 2024 in the Agence Binam district — more than fifteen households there.
What else was involved.
Alongside the community visits, 2024 also saw large-scale health campaigns and a scientific conference dedicated to literature review and document analysis — aiming to strengthen research by mental-health professionals and so contribute, long-term, to better population health.
How it's measured.
The program's success is tracked through two indicators: the share of people treated during the health campaigns, and the number and quality of scientific publications produced from the conference. Local administrative authorities and reception structures are involved alongside ACODEB and IFPS.
